Top problems this category solves
What price produces the intended margin?
Start with unit cost, distinguish markup from margin, and check the resulting profit per unit before setting a price.
How many units cover fixed costs?
Divide fixed cost by positive contribution per unit, then round up because partial units normally cannot cover the target.
Is tax included or added?
Choose the correct inclusive or exclusive calculation and supply the legally applicable rate instead of inferring it from location.

Terminology
- Markup
- Profit divided by cost, expressed as a percentage.
- Gross margin
- Gross profit divided by selling price, expressed as a percentage.
- Contribution per unit
- Selling price less variable cost for one unit.
- Tax-exclusive price
- The price before the entered tax amount is added.
Methodology
Keep bases consistent
A percentage is meaningful only when its base is clear. Markup uses cost; margin uses selling price; tax may be added to or removed from a price.
Separate arithmetic from local rules
The calculators apply a supplied percentage deterministically. They do not determine registration, exemptions, filing obligations or the correct legal rate.
Markup and margin are different
Markup compares profit with cost, while margin compares profit with selling price. Use the correct measure when setting prices.
Use the correct local tax rate
The calculator accepts any rate, but registration status, exemptions and product rules remain jurisdiction-specific.

Frequently asked questions
Can I calculate tax for any country?
You can enter any percentage rate, but you must confirm the correct local rule and rate.
Does the break-even calculator include tax?
It uses the fixed cost, selling price and variable cost values entered. Include tax only when it belongs in those figures.
