EVERYDAY MATHEMATICS
Everyday Math Calculators
Handle common calculations without a spreadsheet or sign-up. These tools show the core formula and return an immediate result for shopping, school, work and household decisions.

Top problems this category solves
Which operation answers the question?
Distinguish percent-of, percentage change, ratio, average and weighted average before entering numbers.
How should dates and elapsed time be counted?
Choose whether endpoints, calendar boundaries, workdays and clock rollover belong in the result before calculating.
When should a result be rounded?
Keep intermediate precision and round the final value according to the measurement, reporting or classroom requirement.

Formula, source and limitations
Formula: |a − b| ÷ ((|a| + |b|) ÷ 2) × 100
Deterministic arithmetic aid. Check that the selected method and rounding match the question you are solving.
Terminology
- Mean
- The sum of values divided by the number of values.
- Standard deviation
- The non-negative square root of variance; sample and population formulas use different denominators.
- Median
- The middle value after observations are sorted.
- Ratio
- A comparison of two or more quantities using a common scale.
- Elapsed time
- The duration between two instants, accounting for any clock or date boundary.
Methodology
Match the formula to the intent
The workspace groups related operations but keeps distinct formulas and validation rules so similar language does not route to the wrong calculation.
Make edge rules explicit
Zero denominators, empty sets, date boundaries, negative durations and rounding are handled deterministically rather than left to ambiguous interpretation.
Read the question before choosing a formula
Percentage change, percentage of a number and reverse percentages answer different questions.
Check triangle input sufficiency
A right triangle needs two sides or one side plus one acute angle. The hypotenuse must be longer than either leg.
Choose sample or population statistics explicitly
Use N only for a complete population. Use N−1 when the entered values are a sample used to estimate a larger population.
Check uncertainty assumptions
Use the root-sum-square uncertainty tool only for independent, uncorrelated components with supplied sensitivity coefficients.
Round at the end
Keep intermediate precision and round the final result to the level the situation requires.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use decimals and negative numbers?
Input rules differ by tool. Each calculator limits values where negative or fractional input would not make sense.
Are formulas shown?
Yes. Every calculator includes its formula and important assumptions.
